50 prominent Serbian Travel Agents and Journalists visited the island of Skopelos for a familiarization and media trip May 5 – 7, 2017.
The major Tour Operator Sabra Travel organized the fam trip for a network of travel agencies across Serbia as interest in Greece from the Serbian market has been increasing year after year with a record amount of travellers projected for 2017.
The trip was hosted by “Mediterranea Hotel Management” with hotel accommodations at Rigas Hotel in Skopelos Town. The trip included visits to the main sites of the island including the chapel of Aghios Ioannis of Kastri, made popular internationally from the hit Hollywood film “Mamma Mia!” In addition, the picturesque towns and villages of Skopelos were visited as well as beaches, highlights the natural beauties of the island. Travel operator “Dolphin of Skopelos” participated in the transportation during the trip while meals were offered graciously by the traditional tavern “Kymata” in Skopelos Town and “Louki” and “Paradosiaki Gonia” in Glossa – Loutraki which was arranged by the Municipality of Skopelos. The trip also included a visit to the Women’s Cooperative in the town of Glossa for an intro and sampling of traditional hand-made sweets.
Feedback from the participants was very encouraging as Skopelos is an ideal holiday destination, offering beautiful green forests and crystal blue waters and a relaxing experience, great for romantic get-aways, honeymoons, and weddings, in addition to family holidays. Travellers from Serbia have been increasing in recent years as the destination is easily accessible via motorway, making it easy for family travel as well.
“An increase in tourism from Serbia to Skopelos is seen for the touristic period which is upon us” stated Mr. George Michalis, General Director of “Mediterranea Hotel Management”. This is in continuation of the great feedback and interest in Greece we reaffirmed during our participation in the international travel exhibition “Sajam Turizma 2017” which was held in February in Belgrade, Serbia.
Currently operating 5 properties on the island of Skopelos in addition to managing reservations and sales for additional properties there, the company is expanding its roster with new partnerships being announced throughout Greece.
